FULBRIGHT PROGRAMS
FLTA (Foreign Language Teaching Assistant) Program
This program is aimed at strengthening Turkish and Greek
language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities, and some
high schools while providing future English language teachers
with the opportunity to refine their skills, increase their
English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of U.S.
society.
FLTA fellows spend nine months serving as Teaching Assistants at
U.S. educational institutions while also taking courses in
English teaching and US Studies in conversation groups,
extracurricular activities and community outreach projects. FLTA's must return to their home countries upon completion of
their program.

International Fulbright Science and Technology Award
This is an award
for Ph.D
study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology or engineering.
Eligible fields include: Aeronautics and Astronomics/Aeronautical
Engineering, Astronomy/Planetary Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Computer
Sciences/Engineering, Engineering (electrical, chemical, civil,
mechanical, ocean and petroleum), Environmental Science/Engineering,
Geology/Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Information Sciences and Systems
(engineering focus only), Materials Science/Engineering, Mathematics,
Neuroscience/Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Oceanography, Public Health
(theoretical research focus only) and Physics.

Applicants must have
completed at least a Bachelors Degree by the time they wish to
pursue a Ph.D.

Be proficient in
English with a recent TOEFL score of 580 (or equivalent) or higher.

Take the GRE General
exam (for Math or computer science fields, applicants must also take
the GRE Subject test.

Applicants must be
Cypriot passport holders, have at least one parent who was born in
Cyprus and must not be a citizen of the United States.
These awards are granted
through a world wide competition. Successful applicants will be
nominated by the Cyprus Fulbright Commission and must be approved by the
Office of Academic Exchange Programs (ECA/A/E) and the J. William
Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Funding for these awards
comes from the Office of Academic Exchange Programs of the U.S.
Department of State. Funding is for up to three years, after three
years, U.S. universities will be expected to cover the remaining
expenses toward completion of the PhD.

applicant has been nominated for selection.

Inter-country Lecturers
Program
American Fulbright Scholars on
assignment to Fulbright Commissions in nearby countries may be invited for public lectures and consultation visits depending on the
needs of governmental departments and local institutions.

Senior
Specialists Program
The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program is designed to provide
short-term academic opportunities (two to six weeks) for U.S. faculty
and professionals. Non-U.S. post-secondary academic institutions
submit Senior Specialist project requests through the Fulbright

Fulbright New Century
Scholars Program
This is a program where thirty top academics and professionals from the
U.S. and abroad are selected as New Century Scholars to collaborate for
a year, on a topic of global significance. For details see the
CIES website.
Fulbright Visiting
Cypriot Scholars Program
For
the second consecutive year, the Cyprus Fulbright Commission announced
the Fulbright Visiting (Cypriot) Scholars Program. Each year some 800
faculty and professionals from around the world receive Fulbright
Scholar grants for advanced research and university lecturing in the
United States. This program was announced in May 2007 for
scholarships that may be awarded, subject to availability of funds, for
the fall semester of 2008.
The 2008 nominees are: Dr Ozgur Dincyurek and Dr Mustafa Ozser.
This program is
sponsored by the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and
Cultural Affairs and is offered by the Cyprus Fulbright Commission. The
program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of
Scholars (CIES).
